Liver Resection

As the name implies, liver resection, or hepatectomy, is a surgical procedure used to treat liver cancer by removing the diseased portion of the liver. Depending on the extent of the cancer and the health of the remaining liver, up to two-thirds of the liver can be safely removed.

Remarkably, the liver has the ability to regenerate. Even if a significant portion is removed due to cancer or other conditions, the remaining healthy tissue can regrow over time. In a partial hepatectomy, a surgical oncologist carefully excises the tumor along with the affected liver tissue to ensure maximum disease control.

At the Asian Center of Oncology and Haematology, a team of expert surgical oncologists, medical oncologists, and radiation oncologists collaborates to create a comprehensive, patient-specific treatment plan for optimal outcomes.
