What Are Salivary Glands?

The major salivary glands, located beneath the mouth and around the jawline, play a vital role in producing saliva, which helps keep the mouth and throat moist and supports digestion. These include the parotid, submandibular, and sublingual glands, along with numerous minor salivary glands found throughout the inner lining of the mouth and throat.

Understanding Salivary Gland Cancer

Though salivary gland cancer is relatively uncommon, it can develop in any of the major or minor glands. The exact cause is often unclear, but certain risk factors have been identified — including prolonged exposure to radiation or radioactive substances.
