Omentectomy & Peritonectomy

Omentectomy and Peritonectomy are commonly performed surgical procedures in the treatment of gynecological cancers. These techniques are particularly important when addressing cancers that have spread within the abdominal cavity.

Complete Parietal Peritonectomy (CPP) involves the removal of the entire diseased peritoneum, while Selective Parietal Peritonectomy (SPP) targets only specific affected areas. The peritoneum is a thin, serous membrane that lines the abdominal cavity and covers the internal organs.

An Omentectomy—the surgical removal of the omentum, a fatty fold of the peritoneum—may be recommended by expert oncologists at the Asian Center of Oncology and Haematology, particularly in cases of ovarian cancer where malignancy has spread to this area. Both procedures may also be carried out prophylactically to prevent further cancer progression and improve long-term outcomes.
